The Water Crisis
1. 1 Billion people lack access to clean water
2. Water diseases kill 14,000 Daily
3. 1 Child dies every 15 seconds
The number one killer in the world is unsafe water, which takes the lives of nearly 14,000 people each day and is responsible for 80% of all sickness in the world. According to the World Health Organization, more than one billion people still lack access to clean drinking water. Nearly half of the world’s population suffers from illnesses caused by drinking or bathing in contaminated water.
Water-related disease is the single largest killer of infants in developing countries—diarrhea alone causes 1.8 million infant deaths each year—and access to safe water is the most important factor in the survival of children under the age of five.
Sufficient clean water is foundational for all other community development. Lack of water and sanitation is an obstacle to education for children across the world. Safe water is necessary for economic growth. In many nations, shortage of water is a cause of violent conflict. Living Water International is addressing this most basic of physical needs by helping destitute communities acquire safe, clean water—substantially easing the global water crisis while addressing root causes such as injustice, oppression, and abject poverty.
Clean water changes everything.

LWI-Liberia was established in May of 2004 to drill much needed water wells and repair water pumps destroyed by Liberia’s 14-year civil war. In 2005, LWI established a training center to equip resettled refugees and de-mobilized fighters with trade skills. Over the course of this eight month program, trainees were instructed in health and hygiene, AIDS prevention, and were equipped with hands-on training in operating well drilling equipment. They are now at work rebuilding their nation and sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean water.
