The Water Crisis

1.  1 Billion people lack access to clean water

2.  Water diseases kill 14,000 Daily

3.  1 Child dies every 15 seconds

Drinking from and bathing in polluted water are the most common causes for the spread of infectious disease and nearly half of the world’s population suffers from water-related diseases.  These diseases are the single largest killers of infants in developing countries — diarrhea alone causes 1.8 million deaths each year — and access to safe water is directly linked to the survival of children under age 5.

Drilling water wells is one of the most common solutions to the problem presented by the lack of safe drinking water.  The LS-100, a portable rig designed by LWI board member Harry Westmoreland, is used for shallow well drilling where soil permits.  A larger truck mounted rig is used in the rocky areas of countries such as Kenya, Peru, Ghana and El Salvador.

LWI teams meet physical needs through the provision of clean water and spiritual needs through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
